A Long Pause

I realize that it’s been more than a month since I’ve posted… I’ve got some post idea(s) that are developing, and I promise to put out something more involved in the coming weeks.  If there are any specific post requests, please put them in the comments section here.

How about letting one of us so a guest post!

I’m sittin’ here in whiskey shell loafers right now.

I’d love to see a post about the great horsehide jackets made by Aero Leather Clothing in Scotland.

  3. Wearing my AE shell longwings as I type this! 😉

I would love to see some official Horween guidelines on proper care of shell cordovan.

Wearing my AE Randolphs. I would love to see more of your great pictures and see more of the history that is laying around Horween. One of my favorite posts was with the old Alden shoes found in a closet.

Wearing my black chromexcel Quoddy beefroll loafers I wonder, “How about a comprehensive product listing (colors, weights, et ceterca)?”, the info on http://www.horween.com is weak.

    • Check out the “Product Specification Sheet” at the bottom of our leathers page. There’s a lot there. We have over 100 different products that we can run at this point, I’m not sure you want that kind of detail!

I second the request to hear about the products you provide to Aero.

Along those lines, I’d really like to hear your informed opinion about differences between particular leathers, specifically horsehide vs cowhide but others as well.

There’s a perpetual discussion going on at the Fedora Lounge outerwear forum (which is verging on a Aero Leather fan club) about this subject. It seems to me that most of the opinions are based almost entirely on lore and not facts.

For instance, the issue of FQHH being more water resistant always comes up. I know shell leather is a special case but what about FQHH? Some folks seem to think it’s almost magical.

It would be really nice to hear from someone who really knows leather on this subject.

    Thanks for the great blog.

Happy new year, Nick! Hope you had a great holiday season.

Can you write something about suede leather? Lots of people think that it is delicate but my experience has been otherwise — I think suede is pretty hardy and much easier to take care of. But maybe I’m wrong.
